An open tender has been announced for the development of a construction project for the adaptation of the infrastructure at the intersection of 11 November Embankment and 13 January Street to the low-floor tram parameters

“Rīgas satiksme” informs that an open tender has been announced for the development of a construction project and author's supervision for the renewal and reconstruction of the tram infrastructure at the intersection of 11 November Embankment and 13 January Street, adjusting it to the low-floor tram parameters. Deadline for submission of offers is July 12, 2021, 15.00.

At the intersection of 11 November embankment and 13 January Street, it is planned to replace the existing manually switchable single switches with two-way switches compliant with the operational requirements of the low-floor tram wagons, securing remote control of switch operation and implementation of other measures related to improvement of tram movement and rail-track operation conditions, including:Web_.jpg

  • rail-track reconstruction;
  • adaptation of the tram catenary structure;  
  • rainwater drainage solutions at the rail-track crossing area;
  • construction of the road surface compliant with the heavy traffic load.

Implementation of the project “Adaptation of the Riga tram infrastructure to the low-floor tram parameters” in general must facilitate the use of environmentally friendly public transport and increase the number of passengers in environmentally friendly public transport. In addition, there are several objectives related to environmental sustainability:

  • to increase the speed of tram movement;
  • to reduce traffic jams;
  • to reduce the negative impact of CO2 emissions from private cars on the environment and air quality;
  • to improve the experience of travelling in public transport by increasing the quality of the provided service.

Works included in the project:

  • Reconstruction and renewal of the infrastructure of the tram route No. 5 in the section from intersection of Slokas Street and Jūrmalas gatve to the final stop "Iļģuciems" – approximately 2 km;
  • Reconstruction and renewal of the infrastructure of the tram route No. 7 in the sections from Centrāltirgus Street to the final stop "Ķengarags" – approximately 7 km;
  • Reconstruction and renewal of the tram infrastructure in 11. novembra krastmala and 13. janvāra.

Tram route No. 5:

  • Construction, reconstruction and renewal of the energy supply facilities;
  • Reconstruction and renewal of the rail tracks;
  • Construction and reconstruction of the stop platforms.

Tram route No. 7:

  • Construction, reconstruction and renewal of the energy supply facilities;7_tram_de6e8.jpg
  • Reconstruction and renewal of the rail tracks;
  • Construction and reconstruction of the stop platforms;
  • Installation and adaptation of the traffic light objects to improve the speed of the tram traffic;
  • Measures to improve traffic safety.

The intersection of 11. novembra krastmala and 13. janvāra Street:

  • Reconstruction of the rail tracks, including installation of automated switch control system;
  • Adaptation of the tram catenary constructions;
  • Rain water drainage solutions in the area of the rail track intersection;
  • Construction of the road pavement for heavy traffic load.

As already reported, “Rīgas satiksme” submitted a project application to the Central Finance and Contracting Agency for attracting co-financing of the European Union Cohesion Fund for the development of the Riga tram infrastructure. Taking into account that the project is planned to be implemented by the end of 2023, “Rīgas satiksme” will start the necessary works in time to meet the set deadlines.

The total project costs are estimated at about 47.9 million Euros. The intended co-funding from the Cohesion Fund is 85% of eligible expenses, which is 33.7 million Euros, whereas the remaining 14.2 million Euros would be provided by “Rīgas satiksme”.
